Toronto, ON ~ Today, Mark McManus, M. Ed., CAMS, CTDP, CFE, the Director of Mentorship and Certification for the ACFE-GTA Chapter, made a presentation on "How to Prevent Fraud in a Non-Profit Organization" to a group of station managers at the annual conference of the National Campus and Community Radio Association. The three day conference was held at the Rogers Media Centre at Ryerson University.

The ninety-minute session opened with an overall analysis of fraud in Canada, from the ACFE 2018 Report to the Nations, an annual publication that is available from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Topics discussed included why non-profit organizations are often the victims of fraud, examples of internal and external frauds, and fraudulent financial reporting in the context of a non-profit organization. The session concluded with a discussion on measures that can help to prevent fraud. A question and answer period rounded out the session.

The National Campus and Community Radio Association/L'Association nationale des radios étudiantes et communautaires (“NCRA/ANREC”) is a not-for-profit national association working to recognize, support, and encourage volunteer-based, non-profit, public-access campus, community and native radio broadcasters in Canada. They provide advice and advocacy for individual campus and community (“c/c”) stations and conduct lobbying and policy development initiatives with a view to advancing the role and increasing the effectiveness of our sector. Their goals are to ensure stability and support for individual stations, and to promote the long-term growth and effectiveness of the sector. The NCRA/ANREC has 108 member stations (Dec 2017). Most of their members are located in English-speaking communities, and broadcast predominantly in English, but serve a diverse range of cultural, social and linguistic communities. They have several Native B and French-language or bilingually-licensed members, although most French-language c/c stations are members of either of the French community radio associations: l'Alliance des radios communautaires du Canada (“ARCC”) and l’Association des radiodiffuseurs communautaires du Québec (“ARCQ”).
